According to Forbes, the growing interest in podcasts is not slowing down. Here is a quick list of stuff.
Why should you start a podcast for you business?
  1. It allows you to reach people you might not have otherwise reached.
  2. It humanizes your brand (if you can feature voices from your company).
  3. It presents a differentiating opportunity (if your competition isn't podcasting) to connect with customers and prospects.
What mistakes should you avoid?
  1. Thinking of your business podcast as a promotional tool.
  2. Creating a title and logo that doesn't tell the listener what the show is about.
  3. Overbranding it with your company, logo and promotional messaging.
  4. Expecting big results and explosive audience growth within the first few months.
What steps should you definitely take?
  1. Think about your audience. Put yourself in their shoes. Ask what would make you listen and what would turn you away.
  2. Figure out how you can consistently create topics year to year.
  3. Figure out ways to be unique and stand out.
  4. Put adequate time into it - provide good audio, editing and production elements (Fiverr is great for producing Intros/Outros and Storyblocks is great for bumpers/music).
  5. Use a podcast hosting service and feature episodes on your website.
  6. Use programs like Headliner to showcase episode clips on social media.
  7. Stay connected to trends by following experts and attend conferences like Podcast Movement.
How will you grow audience and generate business?
  1. Consistency. If you set a day and time for a new episode release - stick with it (Every Tuesday, every other Monday, etc.)
  2. Interviews - Guests will often share the news that they were on a podcast.
  3. Don't force product promotions into your show. Open and close the show with how the podcast is "brought to you by (company name)" and highlight offerings when it's relevant.
