After spending over three years producing radio content at the North Texas NPR affiliate, I got into podcasting.  My first show was a successful celebrity interview podcast. In the last nine years, I've worked as a host, writer, producer and consultant in the podcast space.

Podcast Development

The podcast realm is getting more crowded every day.  In order to stand out, you need to:
  • Be yourself, and talk about something you LOVE
  • Think outside of the box when it comes to your themes and formats
  • Dedicate yourself to quality (microphones, production elements, rundowns, scripting, logo creation, consistency, editing, etc.)
  • Keep the listener in mind as you produce each episode (Remember, you're not just a producer.  You're also a consumer of content.)
Three of my best examples of developing a creative podcast format include:
  • Assembly of Geeks (2013 - 2016)
  • The Peggy Carter Podcast (2015-2016)
  • The Geek Supreme (2017-2019)

The hosts, listeners and guests met at the Fantastic Fortress to discuss what is happening in the geek world.  It was part story/part talkshow.

Covered both seasons of ABC's Agent Carter.  Episodes featured an SSR reporter who set-up the plot, and each "commercial break" featured radio ads from the 1940s.

Part geek talk show and game show.  Darth Taxus covered the geek news of the day and challenged the geek hosts with discussions, games, quizzes and challenges.
Two examples of creative podcast segments or presentations include:
  • Repurposed blog content for a healthcare client
  • Geek Culture Spotlight narrated interviews

Current Podcasts

COMIC BOOK NOOB

A podcast meant for people who want to get into comics but don't know where to start.  Each episode features one character or topic, and two experts share the basic information about them.  Episodes last about 25-30 minutes and conclude with reading recommendations.

THE DISNEY PLUS STREAMCAST

I join two other hosts as we discuss the programming on Disney Plus. Episodes feature news, reviews and discussion.  Special guests include Jeph Loeb, Joan Van Ark, former Disney Imagineer Brian Collins and more.

Podcast Consulting

Once I learned from my own mistakes and improved my podcasting skills, I was eager to help others.

Since then, I've worked as a podcast consultant for podcasters and businesses.

My first podcast advice video picked up 79,000 views, and I've been adding more in 2020.
